I qualified as a Registered General Nurse in Cardiff. My career in emergency nursing has spanned 30 years, having undertaken the ENB 199 in Accident and Emergency Nursing, Postgraduate Diploma in Clinical Practice (Emergency Nursing), and an MSc (Nursing).  I have also been awarded a Fellowship in Emergency Nursing from the Faculty of Emergency Nursing UK (FFEN). I have worked in a number of emergency departments in the UK and Ireland, most recently as CNM3 in the Emergency Department in Naas General Hospital.

During my career I have overseen the introduction of many innovations in the delivery of emergency care. My special areas of interest within emergency nursing are care of the multiple trauma patient, major emergency planning, parasuicide / suicide and the care of the suddenly bereaved.

I was appointed Nursing Lead to the National Emergency Medicine Programme (EMP) in August 2010. I am the chair of the Emergency Nursing Interest Group which was established to offer a collective, informed view of Emergency Nursing for the EMP, and has representation from all Emergency Departments / Local Injury Units. I have presented a variety of EMP related nursing innovations at conferences both nationally and internationally and co-authored a number of emergency nursing related articles.

I have recently been appointed to the Pre-hospital Emergency Care Council and the Board of the Faculty of Emergency Nursing.
